Activities in the Boy Scout and Cub
Scout programs are the “spice” that improves the
“flavor” of the overall program. They also
provide opportunities to enhance unit programs.
Activities do such things as:
- Provide excitement, such as through District Pinewood
Derby and Peterloon participation
- Encourage and promote certain program aspects, e.g. Tiger
Day for Tiger Cubs
- Recognize leadership of units and district, e.g. District
Volunteer Recognition Dinner and awards
- Showcase the Scouting program and unit activities through
participation in Council’s Outdoor Action Expo and in unit or
district events promoting Scout Anniversary Week in February
- Encourage patriotism through participation in community
parades and cemetery decorations
At the same time, Activities demonstrate the
value of Scouting to the community and provides Civic Service.
This is done through:
- Unit participation in Scouting for Food and Clothing (in
support of local food pantries for the needy)
- Encouragement of unit and district-wide community service
projects
