Cub Scout Pack 919
Flag Retirement Ceremony
May 2004

Pack 919 held a flag retirement ceremony at their 2004 Spring Cross-Over Campout.  A total of 14 flags were retired with a special one being done as the cornerstone of the ceremony.

The Pack Committee Chairman's grandmother had flown a flag in front of her home for years and had passed away the previous year.  This flag was flown for the last time prior to the evening campfire and then retired in a wicker basket on the fire.  The basket was used to emulate the coffin of a fallen soldier, which is the custom of the US military.

As the flag was placed on the fire, all attending rose and gave the scout or civilian salute.  This continued for the next 10 minutes as the other 13 flags, each shrouded in its own bag, was placed on the fire.

Here are pictures taken during the event.
